Cara Backup dan Restore Connection SAP GUI 7.40 to SAP GUI 7.70
Symptom
You are upgrading SAP GUI for Windows from older version to the new GUI version 7.40 / 7.50 / 7.60 / 7.70 with landscape format enabled (This format is enabled by default starting GUI 7.50)
- The connection entries are not migrated from the old saplogon.ini file to the new sapuilandscape.xml file
- There is no saplogontree.xml file present at the location %APPDATA%\SAP\Common. If you see both the above symptoms together, read further.
Please note:
%APPDATA% stands for the environment variable specifying
the Application Data directory located directly below the
user profile directory.
A typical Application Data directory in Windows Vista / 7 / 10 is:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming
and in Windows XP
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data
I will be referring C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming throughout the document.
Environment
SAP GUI for Windows 7.40, 7.50, 7.60, 7.70
Reproducing the Issue
- Maintain only file saplogon.ini in the folder C:\Users\<userid>\AppData\Roaming\SAP\Common. Remove all other files from this folder.
- Enable landscape format ( Refer SAP Note 2220930 - How to enable SAP UI Landscape format for SAP GUI for Windows 7.40) for GUI 7.40 for Windows. If you are upgrading to GUI 7.5 or later versions, landscape format is enabled by default.
- When you open SAP GUI logon for the first time after the upgrade, you will see the new file sapuilandscape.xml getting created in the folder C:\Users\<userid>\AppData\Roaming\SAP\Common. However, this newly created file is empty and no connection entries are migrated from saplogon.ini to sapuilandscape.xml.
Cause
- This issue occurs mostly when you are upgrading from a very old GUI version (for e.g. GUI 7.1) to GUI 7.4 with landscape format enabled or GUI 7.5 or later versions of GUI.
- This is because saplogontree.xml file is not present in the folder C:\Users\<userid>\AppData\Roaming\SAP\Common.
- The file saplogontree.xml was introduced from GUI 7.2. This file was not present in the previous GUI versions.
Resolution
While upgrading from a very old GUI version to GUI 7.4 or GUI 7.5 or later GUI versions with landscape format enabled, please ensure that:
- You have the below configuration files in the folder C:\Users\<userid>\AppData\Roaming\SAP\Common. If they are not there, copy it from the location where it was and move it to this folder.
- saplogon.ini (Mandatory)
- saplogontree.xml (Mandatory)
- sapshcut.ini(if any)
- saprules.xml(if any)
- If you do not have saplogontree.xml file present in your system at all (because you were using a very old version of GUI like 7.1), follow the steps below to trigger the manual creation of this file.
***WARNING***: The following resolution involves editing the registry. Using the Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems. Use the Registry Editor at your own risk. Refer to KBA 1323322 for more information
- Set the registry key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\SAP\SAPLogon]"LandscapeFormatEnabled"=dword:00000000. This will disable the landscape format.
- After setting this registry key, when you open GUI logon for the first time, you will see the file saplogontree.xml getting created in the folder C:\Users\<userid>\AppData\Roaming\SAP\Common.
- Now, you have both the mandatory files saplogon.ini and saplogontree.xml file in the folder C:\Users\<userid>\AppData\Roaming\SAP\Common. Close GUI logon window.
- Again, change the registry key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\SAP\SAPLogon]"LandscapeFormatEnabled"=dword:00000001. This will enable the landscape format.
- Open the GUI logon window again and you will see the new file sapuilandscape.xml getting created in the folder C:\Users\<userid>\AppData\Roaming\SAP\Common.
- When you open this sapuilandscape.xml file, you will be able to see all the connections migrated from old saplogon.ini to sapuilandscape.xml.
